One Goal. One Team. One Vision.
SEIU Healthcare is the only service union with a dedicated Nursing Division that holds a convention and has a president, a constitution, and professional practice liaison staff. We proudly represent over 8,500 nurses, which includes registered practice nurses (RPNs), registered nurses (RNs), and nurse practitioners (NPs).
RPN Jackie Walker, who came from the SEIU Healthcare membership, is the President of our Nursing Division. She has been a strong nurse advocate for several years and is proud to fight alongside her diverse Nursing Division Executive Board.
The Nursing Division’s primary goal is to ensure all nurses, despite their designation, are treated fairly and acknowledged for their compassion and dedication to their profession. We are committed to achieving the respect, protection, and pay all our nurses deserve.

Professional Liability Protection
SEIU Healthcare is the only union that provides PLP for FREE to all nurses. Professional Liability Protection (PLP) Insurance is a form of liability insurance that helps protect service-providing individuals from bearing the full cost of defending against a negligence claim made by a client/patient, and damages awarded.
In 2022, due to changes in law and from insurance providers, the rules of PLP are changing and every SEIU Healthcare nurse will need to fill out a new form to ensure they are protected. Click the link button to renew your PLP.
Don’t forget to renew your insurance by April 1, 2022.

AugustWage Increase for Yee Hong RPN Members
After many meetings, petitions, letters to the CEO, and constant pressure on Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care from the membership, RPNs at Yee Hong achieved a three-dollar raise. Yee Hong RPNs have been fighting for over 10 years for a wage increase, but never gave up and continued to push. Read more about this story in the next issue of Scrubs & Scopes.
Southlake Regional Health Centre RPNs Win Policy Grievance
OctoberSouthlake Regional Health Centre RPNs Win Policy Grievance
In August 2021, we filed a policy grievance at Southlake Regional Health Centre due to management assigning RPNs as charge nurses, which is beyond the scope of an RPN position. Thanks to the help of union representative Kevin Hickey and Southlake’s RPNs they were able to get the employer to agree that management does not have the right to assign RPNs as the charge nurse. If they choose to explore this route in the future, they must consult the union and discuss a proper premium rate.
