Remembering Our Fallen Heroes
Remembering Our Fallen Heroes
It takes a brave, selfless, and compassionate person to pursue a career in healthcare. Every day, you enter your workplaces with the possibility of going head-to-head with a deadly virus or facing dangerous working conditions that could affect your well-being. This year, we lost three outstanding SEIU Healthcare members to the risks healthcare workers are exposed to daily, including COVID-19. Our fallen heroes will always be remembered in our hearts.
Registered Practical Nurse
Extendicare Mississauga
Maureen dedicated over 16 years of her life to caring for others. Everyone who knew Maureen described her as a very loving and hard-working nurse who was a great leader in her community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her home cooking, kind heart, and empathy will be missed dearly, especially by her children and grandchildren.
Community Service Worker
New Leaf
Ashiru tragically passed away on the job. The investigation of his death is still ongoing, and we hope that Ashiru and his family get the justice they deserve. Ashiru was always smiling and laughing, spreading good vibes to everyone he encountered, especially his residents. SEIU Healthcare will always remember Ashiru and will continue fighting for safer working conditions to ensure we prevent avoidable tragedies in the future. To commemorate Ashiru’s memory, we held a Facebook Live on March 2, where colleagues and friends shared memories and stories about Ashiru.
Registered Nurse
Maple Grove Care Community
Lorraine was a dedicated SEIU Healthcare member for 18 years. Over that time, we have watched her grow into a fierce activist who wasn’t scared to speak her mind and stand up for others. She always had her residents’ and colleagues’ best interests at heart. Lorraine was a loving mother and admired friend who was committed to helping everyone around her.
